Foundation training course

For those looking to become a practicing mediator or to use techniques of mediation in their work

Against a background of economic stagnation and shrinking public sector budgets, mediation is bucking the trend, with more people than ever taking up mediation training. Many professionals who deal with complex personal issues in their work also use aspects of mediation on a day-to-day basis. Our Foundation Training covers in detail the process and the skills required to become an effective mediator in a range of settings, whether in house or independent. It is an increasingly popular option for professionals looking to change career or to develop additional skills in their existing role.

This is a five day course giving a solid grounding in the principles and practice of mediation. This course is run several times a year and can also be delivered in house. For more information on what the course covers and for dates and booking details please see our foundation training page

In house professional development

For managers looking to handle conflict and build a better workplace

These courses are designed for staff who work directly with people – whether customer or client facing , or in an HR, management , or supervisory role. They range from short courses aimed at improving communication, complaint handling, or an introduction to conflict theory and the basic skills and strategies used by professional mediators – to in house mediator training for those wishing to set up their own in house mediation service. Whatever your specific needs we can adapt our training materials to suit you and we can deliver it in house on your premises.

We can also provide advice and consultancy to help you set up an in house mediation service and ongoing supervision for your newly trained mediators. For more information please see our bespoke training page

Family mediation conversion training

For experienced mediators looking for accredited training in this specialist field.

You will need to have completed a recognised accredited course such as our own foundation training course or an equivalent (e.g. 5 day NOCN training course ) Please see our family training page

About Accreditation

With the exception of the specialist field of family mediation, mediation training is relatively unregulated, and the term “accredited” is widely and differently used. Before choosing a provider, it’s important to ask them by what process their training has been accredited.

Our mediation training is accredited by the National Open College Network (NOCN), so it meets quality standards for content, delivery, learner achievement and verification. Although the NOCN’s standards are among the highest available and widely accepted in the field of mediation, by themselves they do not provide evidence of subject expertise.

All our training programmes are also accredited by the Law Society and approved by the College of Mediators . So if you train with us you will be able to become a member of the College of Mediators and your training will fulfil all the necessary requirements of the Family Mediation Council, enabling you to go on to gain recognition through practise as a family mediator.

This combination of accreditation and recognition means you can be sure that our programmes are up to date and consistent with the latest professional standards.
